Great questions you should ask:
· What is your videography style?
There are many styles of videography. Whether it is documentary or cinematic, it is important to discuss the type of video style you want, and make sure they offer it.
· How do you choose the music for the film?
Discussing music is a great idea because it plays such an important part in your wedding film. You will be able to let your videographer know the types of genres you like, and you can provide a list of songs for them to choose from, however keep in mind if the music you choose is not royalty free, you will not be able to post your beautiful videos on any social media platforms. I recommend you discuss this in more detail with your videographer.
· Have you worked with my photographer before?
Your photographer and videographer will be working side by side, so you should make sure they know how to work as a team while capturing your big day.
· When will I receive my wedding video?
Editing can take a while, especially during wedding season. Therefore, it is always a good idea to ask when you will receive your final video so you will know when to expect it.
· How long have you been filming weddings?
This will give you a better understanding of how long your videographer has been in the industry. You should also ask to see their previous work whether they are new to the industry or old.
· What equipment will you use?
There are always new methods as well as technology, so it is a good idea to make sure your videographer is up to date with the most reliable equipment.
· Have you shot at my venue before?
This is a great question to see if the videographer is familiar with your venue. If they have shot there before, they will know the ins and outs of the area. If they have not shot at your venue before, then you may want to ask if they will visit before the day-of your wedding.
· What is your editing process?
Editing is an artform unto itself, from filming on location making sure to get all the footage necessary to tell your wedding story creatively, down to the many parts of editing. It takes time, skill, and a passion for the artform. Asking a videographer what his “editing process” is would be like asking a magician what his trick to the trick is, we recommend experiencing the videographer’s work to obtain a better appreciation of their artform.
· What packages do you offer?
Videographers usually offer a variety of different packages and deals. You should discuss what package you want such as, having both a trailer video, your wedding highlight film, and your 360 VR video.
· Do you have a second shooter?
Having a second shooter is like having another set of eyes at your wedding. This ensures that nothing will be missed during the getting ready process, ceremony, reception, and all the good stuff in between.
Additional questions:
· How will they co-ordinate the filming of you wedding with the photographer or other vendors?
· Will the videographer you’re speaking to be the one who will be filming your wedding? If not, make sure you speak to the person that will actually video your wedding.
· What parts of the wedding day do they capture?
· Do they use additional lights during the reception? Can they confirm the lighting will be un-intrusive? Can the lights be dimmed?
· Does the final video use dialogue from the wedding day or is it more of a music video?
· Is there a charge for staying later in the evening if something important comes up?
· Will they go to a location (like the beach or a park) without additional charge?
· Will the videographer have an assistant at the wedding?
· What is their cancellation/refund policy?
· How long will it take them to edit the wedding video? You don’t want to be waiting 6 months to view your wedding film.
· Is the final film delivered on a DVD, Blu-ray, USB or online?
· Are they delivering in HD if they are filming in HD or possibly 4K?
